Nusa Ceningan Ultimate Travel Guide

Hello, hello! After a recent trip to Bali I became slightly obsessed with this small island known as Nusa Ceningan. Nusa Ceningan is like the chilled out & relaxed version of Bali, which can be pretty busy and hectic. Here you’ll find the most gorgeous crystal clear water, relaxed beach bars, delicious food and beautiful hotels. Do not miss out on visiting Nusa Ceningan on your next trip to Bali, you won’t regret it! Here is my Nusa Ceningan Ultimate Travel Guide.

First things first, how do we get to Nusa Ceningan? The best way to get to Nusa Ceningan is to organize transfers which includes pick up from your hotel in Bali, a ride to the port, the boat ride across and sometimes drop off at your new hotel.  To organize the transfers you can either do this ahead of time online or when you arrive in Bali at one of the local travel agencies. You’ll likely save money doing this when you arrive since you can negotiate pricing. The average price is approximately $20 AUD in one direction or $30 round trip. There are multiple boats leaving throughout the day so there are plenty of options to choose from.

Bali has two main seasons, wet season & dry season.

The wet season generally runs from October through April – the peak being December – February. During the wet season you can expect more rain and very humid weather. However it’s not necessarily a bad time to travel since hotel prices are lower and there are less crowds. The transition months between wet and dry season are a great time to travel if you want the advantages of wet season but more chance of sunny weather.

Obviously dry season, May – September,  is the majority of peoples preferred travel season. Nusa Ceningan in particular is great to travel during dry season since you’ll avoid most of the Bali crowds anyways and you can enjoy the outdoor beach beach bars and pools.

No matter what your budget is, there are great options on Nusa Ceningan for any budget. Whether you’re looking for more of a resort feel or basic hotel you’ll find something to suit you. You can find all accommodation for Nusa Ceningan & Nusa Lembongan here. The following are my favourite options.

HIGH END – If you’re searching for a beautiful hotel resort with an incredible view, I highly suggest the Blue Lagoon Avia Villas. These villas are right next to the Blue Lagoon, with an infinity pool and restaurant/bar overlooking the Blue Lagoon.

MID RANGE – There are lot’s of choices when it comes to mid range hotels in Nusa Ceningan. One that I suggest is Le Pirate Beach Club. It’s a very “Instagrammable” hotel with various small beach huts and a beautiful infinity pool. Le Pirate Beach Club offers free pick up from the Yellow Bridge and is great to relax with hammocks attached to each beach hut. It’s a beautiful place to stay for very good value.

LOW END – I stayed at Aurora Beach View for a few nights and it was perfect for a lower end budget. It has a beautiful pool overlooking the beach, plus all the necessities you want in a hotel. The rooms are large with air con, WiFi, and it’s walking distance to my favourite bars. And the best part is it’s very affordable for any budget.

There are a lot of great food options to suit all food preferences and dietary needs. Whatever kind of food you’re in the mood for you’ll most likely to be able to find it on Nusa Ceningan or the neighbouring island Nusa Lembongan. My favourite places include the following:

AVIA BISTROT – My favourite place for breakfast was at Avia Bistrot, the restaurant at the hotel overlooking the Blue Lagoon. The food the food is delicious and the view is unbeatable. It’s also a great place to have lunch and some drinks next to the pool.

THE ISLAND CENINGAN – The Island Ceningan is was my favourite beach bar to chill out at. The food is good with lots of choices but I came mainly for the drinks and the sunsets. The happy hour specials are great with 2 for 1 cocktails. It’s got a very relaxed vibe with lots of beanbags and some hammocks and swings to hang out on.

Nusa Ceningan Where to eat and drink

THE SAND CENINGAN – The Sand Ceningan is the bar/restaurant I went to most often for dinner. I loved the food here with lots of options to suit everyone. The food is very affordable so it’s a great choice if you’re on a budget. It’s also a wonderful beach bar during the day with some very picturesque swings.

GINGER AND JAMU –  The food at Ginger and Jamu is seriously so delicious. This was the my favourite restaurant I went to in all of Bali. There are lots of vegetarian and vegan options on the menu. Ginger and Jamu is located on Nusa Lembongan right next to the beach so you can eat with a gorgeous view. It’s a very popular restaurant for breakfast but also has great lunch and dinner options. I highly suggest ordering the french toast, it is so yummy!

HAI BAR AND GRILL – Hai Bar and Grill is one of the more premium options located on Nusa Lembongan. It’s a beautiful classy restaurant at Mushroom Bay. The prices are a bit higher than most restaurants on the island but the food is delicious. I suggest ordering the wood-fire pizza for some seriously good authentic Italian food.

Nusa Ceningan is the perfect place to take it easy and relax! However if relaxing is something you get bored of quickly there are still plenty of things to see and do around the island. Some of the most popular things are relaxing at the beach bars, visit the Blue Lagoon, and swim at the secret beach. You can also travel over to Nusa Lembongan to visit Mushroom Bay and Devil’s Tears. If you want to do a day trip or even a couple nights, the neighbouring island Nusa Penida is an incredible island to explore. Nusa Penida is very inexpensive to get to and only about a 10 minute boat ride from Nusa Ceningan.
